University of Oslo - Coordinator

Founded in 1811, UiO is Norway’s oldest and largest public institution of research and higher education with 27 000 students and 7000 employees. UiO focuses on research-based education and attracts highly qualified students from all over the country. UiO is ranked among the 100 top universities in the world. The University of Oslo has several National Centres of Excellence (CoEs), and is an active player in European research activities, with more than 100 projects funded in EUs 7th Framework Programme. Five Nobel Prize winners indicate the quality of the research at the University.

Department of Private Law

The Department of Private Law was established in 1955 and is one of six units comprised under the Faculty of Law at the University of Oslo. The department has competency in research and teaching within several areas of private Law. The Department of Private Law contributes beyond the H2020 funding to SMART, with an expanded position for the Administrative Coordinator as well as with a PhD position, several master student positions and through the contributions of the scholars of the Research Group Companies, Markets and Sustainability.

The Research Group on Companies, Markets, Society and the Environment is the Faculty of Law’s forum for company law scholars. The Research Group’s main body of research concerns the regulation of small and large enterprises, both Norwegian and transnational, including national company law, comparative company law, EU company law, and the impact of international environmental and human rights standards on companies. The research covers both traditional issues of company law, company tax law and financial market law, and has a wider perspective, encompassing the impact that companies and other enterprises have on society and the environment.

Department of Informatics

The Department of Informatics (IFI) was established in 1977 when a division of the Mathematics Department merged with a division of the Department of Physics. IFI was a pioneer offering the very first lectures within computer science in Norway. The department has a wide range of courses and study programmes, with 800 undergraduates, 450 master's students and 220 PhD students. IFI has a research environment with 13 research groups and around 250 research staff, producing around 350 publications annually.

The Department of Informatics actively contributes to finding solutions for important societal challenges (Strategic Plan 2014 - 2107). Informatics plays an essential role in multidisciplinary research tackling these challenges. As such, UiO-IFI will be able to commit to a constructive contribution to the SMART Project.
