Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Shanghai Jiao Tong University is a public research university located in Shanghai, China. Established in 1896 by an imperial edict issued by the Guangxu Emperor, the university is renowned as one of the oldest and most prestigious and selective universities in China. SJTU is a member of China's C9 League and Yangtze Delta Universities Alliance.

Today SJTU has 31 schools (departments), 63 undergraduate programs, 250 masters-degree programs, 203 Ph.D. programs, 28 post-doctorate programs, and 11 state key laboratories and national engineering research centers. Internationally, SJTU is ranked among 101-150th globally by ARWU (2014). The institution came sixth in the QS BRICS University Rankings and was 27th in the counterpart conducted by Times Higher Education.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University will contribute to the SMART project with research within relevant areas of international law and policy focusing on EU law, and, for comparative purposes, Chinese and US law and policy. The scholars involved will also contribute with analysis of international regulatory complexity for EU-developing countries trade and investment.
